  3. the rashes are always on my back. the therapist uses lavender lotion on my back. would that be the cause of my rashes? l get massages every two weeks because of back pain. my entire spinal column is arthritic.

    1. That's a good question; it would be worth asking your therapist to have a look at the ingredient list to verify.

You could also try washing your back with soap and water right after your massage (and laundering the clothes that would have been in contact with the lotion). Allergic contact dermatitis (rashes caused by allergies) often occur after prolonged contact with the allergen.

I've had good results in preventing rashes that I get from bandaid adhesives whenever I've taken it off my skin after a couple of hours and washed the area with soap and water. I haven't tried this strategy with lotions and creams, but it might be worth a try? Good luck with managing it and let me know how it goes!

  4. Is it anything with 'butyl' in the name? E.g butylphenyl? I'm trying to get my head around what creams I can have. Thanks!

    1. Good luck with your search! I haven't heard that butylphenyl is a carba mix chemical. Here are the names that start with butyl that I'm aware of:
      Butyl zimate
      Butyl ziram
      Butyl-3-iodo-2-propynylcarbamate
      Butyl-3-iodo-2-propynylester

  5. I'm allergic to carba. Is the chemical in hair dye by the name of carbomer the same?

    1. This is a tricky one. From what I can find online, the answer is no, carbomer is not the same as carba mix. It has a very similar name, but that ingredient should not cause allergic contact dermatitis to people allergic to carba mix.

  6. Thanks for this post! I found out about 6 months ago that I am allergic to carba mix and I have felt so alone and lost! I have found groups for my other allergies but not this one and this is the most frustrating one!

One of my biggest challenges is knowing what clothing I can/cannot wear. And I swear my rash has spread since seeing the dermatologist :( It used to only be in a few small spots but now I get breakouts all over the place.
